Notifications/announcements for respective Brown Bag Lunches or Seminar Series are sent through these mailing lists. Contact various list that you are interested in for membership. Please recommend lists that you'd like to see receive BBL emails including info about the subject/focus of the email lists.

Every notification/announcement

  • HCIL mailing list (hcil@cs.umd.edu)
  • MITH (mith-community@listserv.umd.edu; mith-staff@listserv.umd.edu)

Major announcements

  • FYI (fyi-poster@umd.edu) (To post to the FYI list go to http://www.umd.edu/fyi and select "Submit Request" at the top of the page.)
  • UMIAC (umiacs@umiacs.umd.edu)
  • Computer Science gradlist (gradlist@cs.umd.edu)
  • Computer Science faculty (faculty@cs.umd.edu)
  • HCIL-DC listserv (hcil-dc@cs.umd.edu)
  • iSchool faculty (ischoolresearch@listserv.umd.edu)
  • iSchool discussion (ischoolannouncements@listserv.umd.edu)

Only when related

  • Educational Department (tlpl-graduate-students@listserv.umd.edu; tlpl-faculty@listserv.umd.edu;)
  • Business department (ljohnson@rhsmith.umd.edu; smithnewslink@rhsmith.umd.edu;)
    • Is there a standard place that people should send talk announcements to get them distributed to the DOIT faculty and phd students? - Yes! Please send these announcements to me - ljohnson@rhsmith.umd.edu.
    • Is there a Smith calendar or other place that we should send talk announcements to get them to the faculty and students more broadly? - Yes! Please send these announcements to smithnewslink@rhsmith.umd.edu.
  • School of Journalism
  • Maryland Cybersecurity Center (MC2) mc2-dicuss@umiacs.umd.edu

Undergraduate access points

  • CS undergrad mailing list (I would strongly recommend emailing Brandi Adams (bkadams@cs.umd.edu) from the CS undergraduate department before using this, rather than just sending out mail to this listserv): csundergrads@cs.umd.edu
    • There are likely also similar listservs for the other undergraduate departments, but Bob has yet to confirm this
  • UMD CS undergrad facebook group (which you appear to need to be a CS undergrad at the university to be able to post in): https://www.facebook.com/groups/345322632181952/
  • Flyers in buildings relevant to specific majors, particularly CSIC (CS majors), BPS (psychology majors), and SPH (healthcare-related majors)
  • There is a large-screen TV mounted in the lobby of the CSIC building which runs current university advertisements; we could likely be added to the rotation if we contacted Brandi Adams (bkadams@cs.umd.edu) or whoever else is in charge of managing it
  • There are many student clubs related to HCI, design, and various other topics that we could likely send out information to on relevant weeks. (The full list and contact information can be found at stars.umd.edu) Some related clubs are:
    • American institute of graphic artists
    • Association for computing machinery
    • Cyber security club
    • Mobile app developers
    • Game developers' club
    • Terrapin hackers
  • Chalking advertisements on the ground at major hubs of walking traffic on campus (in the middle of the mall, in front of Stamp, in front of the Diners, around the CS building, etc.)
  • Maker fairs, hackathons, and other similar events. We may not be able to advertise at the event itself, but students attending will likely have meetings beforehand or email lists, and might let us get out a quick blurb about a relevant talk
  • Professors already involved in BBLs who teach relevant classes and are willing to send out an email, say something in a class, or let one of us come in and give a quick pitch
