Jira is a project management (PM) software, developed by Atlassian. Sandbox has access to a cheap, non-enterprise, 3 user license. Because of this, it is presently a staff-only utility.
Glossary
- Project - the top level of organization in Jira. A bucket for issues.
- Next-gen project - a streamlined project layout. A relatively new Jira feature.
- Issue - the primary unit of data in a Jira project. Commonly misidentified as 'ticket.' See enumerated issue types below.
- Epic - the largest unit of work, parent to tasks. Represents an ongoing effort in the project roadmap.
- Task - a middle unit of work, parent to subtasks.
- Subtask - the smallest unit of work.
- Roadmap - a timeline view of all epics in a project. The primary visualization tool of next-gen projects.
Motivation
Our Jira instance serves the following purposes:
- Personal productivity tracker/organizer
- Fast, first-line knowledge management (KM) about ongoing work
- Record of work done, for managerial purposes
