The sewing machine makes use of a thick sewing needle that, when not used properly, can break and be hazardous to users. Breaks can be caused by excessive force when using the machine or trying to fix a snag in the stitching.
The main concern in using the button maker is placing foreign objects in the metal die trays, as the lever applies pressure to create the buttons. However, the lever can only descend to a certain degree, preventing most foreign objects from receiving unnecessary force.

ABM 2.25" Button Maker

Description

The ABM 2.25" is a button maker from American Button Machines.

Safety Concerns

The main concern in using the button maker is placing foreign objects in the metal die trays, as the lever applies pressure to create the buttons. However, the lever can only descend to a certain degree, preventing most foreign objects from receiving unnecessary force.

Training

We are currently building our training module for this tool. In the meantime, the American Button Machine website has a nice tutorial page.

Self-training via this wiki, user manuals, or other sources is encouraged but does not substitute for the online training module. Students found using this tool without completing the Canvas training module are subject to disciplinary action which may include termination of Sandbox access.
