===Domain Reboot Tuesday, August 16===

When: Tuesday, August 16th 8PM-10PM

In order to apply a critical kernel patch, our RHEL5 and Ubuntu machines will require a reboot. Only RHEL5 and Ubuntu machines that have not been rebooted by next tuesday will be affected. This includes RHEL5 desktop systems, Ubuntu desktops, as well as RHEL5 servers and clusters including (but not limited to) chimera, ibis, and lccd. The crocco and bug clusters will not be affected. We have planned this for August 16th between 8PM and 10PM. The outage will be brief, as the machines will only be rebooted, and there will be staff on-site to ensure that these machines come back up quickly.

We will do our best to accommodate any last-minute deadlines. If you have any questions or comments please contact staff@umiacs.umd.edu as soon as possible.

===Replacing LPRng Print Service With CUPs===

If you are a user of the LPRng print service hosted on lpr1.umiacs.umd.edu please note. We have replaced our print service with a new service based on the CUPs software to provide better printer support and more security. Instructions for using and configuring the new print service can be found at:

https://wiki.umiacs.umd.edu/umiacs/index.php/CUPS

Our old print service will be retired on Thursday, August 18. Please
update
your print setting before then to avoid a disruption. If you require
assistance
updating your printer configuration, you can contact staff, by sending an
email to staff@umiacs.umd.edu. Or you can visit our Help Desk, 3142 AVW,
between the hours of 9am and 5pm.

Thanks for your patience
