UMIACS Private Networks Downtime Tuesday May 12th 5am

We will be taking a short downtime on the UMIACS private networks on Tuesday May 12th between the hour of 5am-6am. This is all machines with an IP address beginning with 192.168, which includes most user desktops. Users on each subnet can expect an approximately 20 minute downtime during which they will not be able to connect to network resources.

External access to major resources such as mail, file servers, and clusters will NOT be affected.

This downtime is a part of our efforts to upgrade our core and backbone network capacity. The new network configuration will allow fully non-blocking network access between internal and external UMIACS networks, and access the benefits of recent 10 gigabit ethernet updates. Currently all internal traffic must traverse a single gigabit line through a proxy server to access any resources. We expect that users making use of file servers will see a noticeable improvement in performance. Thanks in advance for your patience,
