A.V. WILLIAMS BUILDING POWER OUTAGE
Facilities Management must complete emergency work on the high-power distribution on the north side of A.V. Williams building this coming Saturday, May 4th. The entire north side of A.V. Williams will be without power from approximately 7:00AM - 3:00PM on May 4th.
The outage will disrupt operations in the UMIACS data centers in AVW4464 and AVW1446 and power in general to the x3xx and x4xx wings of A.V. Williams. We will begin shutting down the affected clusters at 10PM on 5/3. These include Chimera, RDEC, Crocco, as well as other non-clustered servers housed in the affected data centers. Please note that services from other units including ECE will also be effected.
We will make every effort to bring affected workstations and servers back online before 6PM on 5/4.
We regret the disruptive nature of this work but it is critical to the power infrastructure for the building. Please send mail to staff@umiacs.umd.edu with any questions or concerns.
Java
Due to the frequency and severity of recent Java vulnerabilities, it is strongly advised that Java be disabled in all browsers on your workstations. If you do require Java, it is recommended to maintain a second, separate browser, solely for the instances which require Java. For instructions on disabling Java on your workstation, please see the following: How to disable Java
Additional information on the current Java Vulnerability (as of 1/13/2013) can be found here: http://www.us-cert.gov/cas/techalerts/TA13-010A.html
