Currently, there are the following Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) for Perl available on the market. You may wish to try each of them and decide which is best for your tasks. ActiveState (www.activestate.com) is a big player in this field.

• UNIX/Linux
  • The good old emacs or any text editor that does syntax highlighting.

• Windows
  • VisualPerl from ActiveState. This is a plugin for MS Visual Studio .NET. With it, you can write compile and debug perl code all within VS.NET. If you are familiar with VB and VC development, this is the best tool for you. http://www.activestate.com/Products/Visual_Perl/
  • Komodo from ActiveState. Yes, it's available for Windows too. http://www.activestate.com/Products/Komodo/
