Introduction
Depending on the environment you'll be working in, you have two primary choices for mail. You can decide on our PC based solution Microsoft Exchange Email or a IMAP Email solution. Both provide scanning for Virus and Spam through our Barracuda Spam Firewall

A UMIACS account includes a username@umiacs.umd.edu e-mail address. If you are a University of Maryland employee, this address is required to forward to your directoryid@umd.edu e-mail address. If you are not a University of Maryland employee, you can forward this address to an external email provider. (e.g. gmail, yahoo, etc.)

Microsoft Exchange Email
If your UMIACS account was closed within the last year, we can provide forwarding for this address (username@umiacs.umd.edu) up until one year from the date that the account was closed upon request only.  If you would like us to set this up, please contact staff and let us know the address to forward to.
If you are accustomed with Microsoft Outlook and/or need a shared calendar then we offer the UMIACS Exchange service.

Please see Microsoft Exchange 2007 Email for more information.
If you previously had a UMIACS Exchange or IMAP mailbox prior to the Division of IT-mandated email migration in June 2020 and would like a copy of the archive of your mailbox we made, please contact staff.

This page outlines the E-mail offering that UMIACS provides.

UMIACS E-mail Offerings

A UMIACS account includes a username@umiacs.umd.edu e-mail address. If you are a University of Maryland employee, this address is required to forward to your directoryid@umd.edu e-mail address. If you are not a University of Maryland employee, you can forward this address to an external email provider. (e.g. gmail, yahoo, etc.)

If your UMIACS account was closed within the last year, we can provide forwarding for this address (username@umiacs.umd.edu) up until one year from the date that the account was closed upon request only. If you would like us to set this up, please contact staff and let us know the address to forward to.

If you previously had a UMIACS Exchange or IMAP mailbox prior to the Division of IT-mandated email migration in June 2020 and would like a copy of the archive of your mailbox we made, please contact staff.

How do I know where my E-mail is being sent?

You can verify your current E-mail preference through our Directory Profile Tool.

Spam Firewalls

UMIACS has deployed spam firewalls into our mail infrastructure to provide additional virus and spam filtering capabilities.
