===Network Problems===
We have noticed that starting sometime Monday May 18th 2009 that we have been experiencing a higher level of latency on average.  Sometimes latency has also jumped to an unacceptable level (eg. 200-300ms) for short periods within the UMIACS network.  We are currently working on this problem and have no ETA on an exact fix as we still are having trouble pinpointing the problem.

===Webmail Upgrade Wednesday May 20th 2009 8pm===

We are going to be upgrading our [[Webmail]] service on Wednesday May 20th 2009 8pm.  Our old SquirrelMail based webmail will be available untill Wednesday June 24th 2009 at which time it will be taken down.  All filtering and vacation rules should be updated through the [[Webmail]] interface.

The URL for the new system will be,

  https://webmail.umiacs.umd.edu/roundcubemail

and you will be automatically redirected from the main page https://webmail.umiacs.umd.edu

Please see the documentation for the new system at,

  https://wiki.umiacs.umd.edu/umiacs/index.html/Webmail

This system provides a substantial performance boost especially to large mailboxes.  It also has a much cleaner and more accessible interface.  Please note if you have any questions please email us at [mailto:staff@umiacs.umd.edu staff@umiacs.umd.edu].

===ONStor Upgrade Thursday May 21st 2009 6pm-10pm ===
We have identified two issues, one with MacOS X 10.5 CIFS clients and another with SNMP monitoring.  We are going to perform a system upgrade on '''Thursday May 21st from 6pm-10pm'''.  Since we have a clustered system there should be no downtime for any of our virtual servers however you could see a performance degradation during the update because all the virtual servers will have to be running on one of the ONStors.  The major file systems that are hosted in our ONStor virtual server complex are,

* /nfshomes
* /fs/www
* /fs/ftp
* lccd NFS shares including /lccdhomes
* clamp NFS/CIFS shares
* cbcb attic storage
* glcf NFS/CIFS shares
* /usr/local and /opt NFS shares for UNIX clients
