====A.V. Williams Bldg. Electrical Outage 4/12/2008====
There will be an Electrical outage in the 300 and 400 wings of the A.V. Williams Building on April 12, between the hours of 8am and 4:30 pm. The purpose of this electrical outage is to allow the Department of Operations and Maintenance Electric Shop to complete the repairs on the main breaker and transfer scheme.

In advance of this outage the UMIACS Technical staff will be shutting down machine in our secondary data center at 8pm on Friday April 11th. And will rebooting systems in the effected wings after the outage with the goal of having most systems back online by 6:30pm on April 12th.

The secondary data center shutdown should not effect any core UMIACS services but it will take a number of machines, including the vnode visualization cluster, serine.umiacs.umd.edu, marmoset0.umiacs.umd.edu and marmoset9.umiacs.umd.edu.

If you are going to try to be working in those wings during the outage, please be aware that the wing may lose and regain power several times over the course of the outage period specified by Facilities management, and that the UMIACS network equipment in those effected regions on the building will be offline when the power is off, so even if you work on a laptop or machine with a UPS, even though your machine may have power you may not have network connectivity.

If you have any concerns about the power outage or the secondary data center shutdown, please contact the UMIACS Technical Staff by sending email to: staff@umiacs.umd.edu
