===Outage of Biomolecular Sciences Building Emergency Electrical Systems===
FM has posted an outage of the emergency electrical systems for the Biomolecular Sciences Building on 12/28/2009 from 7:30 am until 1:30 pm. This should not effect regular building power, but some hallway lights tied to the emergency power and the building's elevator, are likely to be out of service.
While we have been assured by FM and NTS that this outage should not effect the normal building power or the network connectivity within the building, previous unplanned outages effecting the emergency electrical have also effected the building's external network connectivity, so there is a chance that network problems could arise with this outage. If there is an outage someone from staff will work to resolve any issues that remain, but will be unable to do anything to restore access until the end of the outage.
Machines in AV Williams should be unaffected by this, so if you have concerns about the outage of need to get access to your files during the outage, for most data machines in AV Williams can be used. If you are unsure about what machines, if any, you can use to access your data, if the BSB network is down, please mail staff with the path to the data you are concerned about and we will let you know if what possible alternate methods of accessing your data exist.

Do not turn off supported computers over break

Recently Someone from FM sent a message to the campus community encouraging people to turn off their computers before leaving for the Holiday Break.

However The UMIACS Technical staff would like to request that you not do so that your computers can continue to get backed up, get updates and receive the latest virus protections.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please send mail to the technical staff (staff@umiacs.umd.edu).
