  • Preparing your FDM 3D object for printing (in Cura)
  • Before you begin, create a new folder on your desktop. Name the folder using the following format: UID_[ProjectName]
  • For example: 123456789_MyProject
  • Your UID is the 9 digit number on the front of your Student ID card
  • In your CAD modeler (such as Fusion360), download your 3D model in STL, OBJ, or another compatible format.
  • Save a copy of the 3D model you just downloaded to the folder you created in step 1.
  • Launch Cura (or your preferred slicing software) and make sure to open a new project.

  • To create a new project in Cura, click on the “File” dropdown and select “New Project”.
  • Import the 3D model file from the folder you created in step 1 by clicking on the file icon at the top left of the Cura Workspace

  • Configure your print settings, including the type of filament you'll use, the layer height, infill density, and other relevant parameters.
  • Once you have finished configuring your print settings, click the “Slice” button in the bottom right corner of the software to generate the g-code.
  • Save a copy of the sliced file to the same folder you created in step 1 with your 3D object.
  • Finally, you may begin your print
