Before requesting a UMIACS account, any new prospective UMIACS account holder needs to have a UMD directory ID. This is to allow them to connect to UMD's GlobalProtect VPN to be delegated access to our networked resources after their account install is completed.
- This also needs to be done for any UMIACS account holder before the January 2025 event that does not already have a directory ID, for UMIACS technical staff to be able to get them access to their UMIACS account again.
Existing UMD students, staff, and faculty should already have a directory ID. For external collaborators, at other institutions or otherwise, the quickest way to get someone a directory ID is to request a Basic Affiliate appointment for them. This can be done by filling out this form and sending it to umiacs-payroll@umiacs.umd.edu.
Even if the person you are requesting an appointment for is going to be performing research with you, be sure to check the Basic Affiliate box and Directory ID box within that section on the form. Do not check either Regular Affiliate or Research Affiliate or any of the boxes in those sections or there may be delays in getting the person access.
If the person you are requesting the appointment for already has a UMIACS account, please be sure to request the directory ID be the same as their UMIACS username, if the ID is available.
Once the person gets their appointment and thus their directory ID, they can fill out the UMIACS account request form (if new) or contact technical staff to get access to their existing UMIACS account again (if existing). If filling out the new UMIACS account request form, please let the person know they should user their directory ID as the requested UMIACS username.
