CloudDataStorage

Cloud (data) storage refers to all data that is stored on third-party providers' data hosting platforms. The opposite of this is filesystem storage which is stored physically at UMIACS i.e., on hard drives either in servers in on-campus datacenters managed by UMIACS staff, or in UMIACS-supported workstations.

UMIACS accounts do not provide access to any cloud storage options, but UMD accounts do. These are listed below.

• Google Drive
  • If you intend for data stored in Google Drive to persist indefinitely, you most likely want to request and store this data in a Shared Drive to ensure data is not lost when an individual leaves UMD and their UMD GAFE account is deactivated.
• Box (being decommissioned in 2027)
• OneDrive
