Cloud (data) storage refers to all data that is stored on third-party providers' data hosting platforms. The opposite of this is filesystem storage which is stored physically at UMIACS i.e., on hard drives either in servers in datacenters managed by UMIACS staff, or in UMIACS-supported workstations.

UMIACS accounts do not provide access to any cloud storage options, but UMD accounts do. These are listed below.

  • Google Drive
    • If you intend for data stored in Google Drive to persist indefinitely, you most likely want to request and store this data in a Shared Drive to ensure data is not lost when an individual leaves UMD and their UMD GAFE account is deactivated.
  • Box
  • OneDrive

The Division of Information Technology (DIT) has some general guidelines about preserving data stored in these services here.
