Before getting a UMIACS account, any prospective UMIACS account holder needs to already hold a UMD account, consisting of a UMD directory ID and associated passphrase. Their UMIACS account will have the same username as the directory ID and also use the same passphrase for authentication, once it is installed.
- TERPmail accounts are separate from UMD accounts - these accounts are used for student email and exist in perpetuity after a student graduates from UMD, but are not sufficient for holding UMIACS accounts.
Current UMD students, faculty, and staff should already have UMD accounts. For external collaborators, interns, visitors, etc., at other institutions or otherwise, faculty members will need to request affiliate appointments for them to get them UMD accounts. An overview of the different types of affiliate appointments can be found here. To actually request an appointment, fill out this form and send it to umiacs-payroll@umiacs.umd.edu.
Once the person gets their appointment and thus their UMD account, determine which type of UMIACS account they need. The two options are full account or collaborator account.
- If full: they can fill out the full UMIACS Account Request form (if new) or contact technical staff to get access to their existing full UMIACS account again (if existing). If filling out the new full UMIACS account request form, please let the person know they should use their UMD directory ID as their requested UMIACS username.
- If collaborator: you can now fill out the Collaborator Account Request form for them, using their @umd.edu email address. They will receive an email to that address with instructions to set up the account.
